AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after trying to kidnap his ex-girlfriend in west Amarillo, police said.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, at about 1:15 p.m., officers responded to a possible kidnapping at a residence near SW 8th Avenue and Bryan Street.
Officers were setting up a perimeter when the suspect got in a vehicle with the woman and left the residence.
Undercover officers watched the vehicle until marked patrol units were able to get in position to make a traffic stop.
The suspect didn't stop and began leading police on a chase.
A few blocks away, near 6th and Crockett, the driver wrecked into a fire hydrant and tried to run from officers.
The man was caught a short distance from the crash.
The victim was taken in an ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Amarillo PD patrol officers are continuing to investigate.
