On October 12, 2007 the body of an unidentified female was found at the City of Amarillo Wood Chipping site at 3718 S. Eastern by employees of the city. This female was later identified as Candice Herrera, 25.
Candice was found to have been shot several times in her upper body. It was determined that Candice had bought minutes for her cell phone at a local business and a record of her phone calls indicated the last phone call was made shortly before 5:00 am on the day Candice was murdered.
The Special Crimes Unit tracked down several leads in this murder over the next several days. On October 18, 2007 an arrest warrant was issued for Steven Solis, 21, charging him with a probation violation.
A search warrant was obtained and was executed on the home of Steven Solis. Solis was taken into custody and later was charged with the murder of Candice Herrera.
From information gathered during the arrest of Solis a murder warrant was issued for Sebastian Roys, 25, as well as a search warrant being issued for his home.
With the assistance of SWAT, Narcotics and COPPS officers both Solis and Roys were taken into custody without incident. Both Solis and Roys have been charged with murder in Randall County. No trial dates have been set for either Solis or Roys.
