Two Amarillo police officers were placed on administrative leave after the shooting death of a man in Amarillo.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 800- block of S. Travis St. on Sunday, Dec. 20, just after 10:20 p.m., on a call of a suicidal person. Officers who were dispatched were told the suspect may be in possession of a gun.
When the officers arrived at the home, the suspect opened the door with a gun in his hand. Police said the suspect, 31-year-old Mark Ramirez, then moved the gun in the direction of the officers and he was shot by police.
APD said the officers administered first aid and called an ambulance. Ramirez was taken to the hospital where he died.
An autopsy will be performed on Ramirez's body in Lubbock on Tuesday morning.
There is no information yet as to how many shots were fired or if both officers fired shots. Both were placed on administrative leave while APD Special Crimes continues to investigate the shooting.
