Amarillo police arrested a man after an Amarillo man had died after a shooting at the intersection of Southwest 1st Avenue and South Bonham Street.



AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo police arrested a man after an Amarillo man had died after a shooting at the intersection of Southwest 1st Avenue and South Bonham Street.

On Jan. 22, APD SWAT officers assisted the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit in conducting a search warrant at two homes near south of Austin Street.

The warrant were in relation to the homicide of Rodney Ward.

Evidence in this case lead to the arrest of 18-year-old Edward Matthew Gamez.

Gamez was booked into Potter County Jail for murder.

On January 19 at 6:52 p.m., APD officers were dispatched to a traffic accident at the intersection of Southwest 1st Avenue and South Bonham Street.

Police say 48-year-old Rodney Curtis Ward was found suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body in his vehicle.

Ward was transported to the hospital with a life-threatening injury.

That evening, detectives who were investigating the case arrested 15-year-old in connection with the shooting.

On Jan. 21, Ward died from his injuries.
