Pair taken into custody following overnight SWAT situation in South Amarillo
AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) —
A man and a woman were taken into custody following a SWAT situation in South Amarillo.
The pair arrested were identified by police as 39-year-old Mark Alan Stephens and 18-year-old Amber Dawn Crow.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers responded to 4504 Goodnight Trl. just before 3 a.m. on Thursday. The report was on a bullet that had hit a window on the south side of the home. Police said this indicated the shot had been fired from 4506 Goodnight Trl., however, officer found no sign of activity at that home.
Officers attempted to make contact but no one would answer or respond to officers knocking on the windows of the home. APD said officers were able to figure out who was supposed to be in the home. They also got information that there could be rifles in the house, so SWAT and Negotiators were requested.
APD said officers made contact with nearby neighbors and let them know about the ongoing situation in case they wanted to leave.
Around 5:40 a.m., Stephens came out of the front door and was arrested. He was charged with Discharge of a Firearm inside a municipality with a population more than 100,000 people.
Officers learned there was also a woman, later identified as Crow, hiding inside a closet in the home because of outstanding traffic warrants. Police said she came out of the home within a few minutes and was taken into custody.
Officers did find a .40 caliber handgun inside the home. Police said they believe this was the firearm that was discharged inside the home.
Police said Crow was charged with her five municipal warrants for traffic charges.
No one else was inside the home and APD said the investigation into circumstances leading up to the discharge is ongoing.
