On January 10, 2005, Mathew Sheldon Vaughn (40) was the victim of a homicide and found inside his residence at 3210 South Lipscomb. Mr. Vaughn had died from blunt force trauma to his head.
Mr. Vaughn’s vehicle, a black Chevrolet Tahoe, was stolen during this homicide and was later found abandoned in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Mr. Vaughn’s cell phone was also stolen and calls made after Mr. Vaughn’s death led to the identity of the suspect.
A warrant charging murder was issued for the arrest of Roy Carl Jones, (33).
Mr. Jones was arrested in California and extradited back to Amarillo. Mr. Jones had only been in Amarillo for two weeks when this homicide occurred and was described as being a transient.
Mr. Jones was indicted by the Randall County Grand Jury for Capital Murder and a trial date has not been set.
