AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo police have arrested a woman in a case involving the death of a 3-year-old boy.

According to police, 44-year-old Laura Alethia Garrison was arrested on Wednesday, August 23, in connection to the June 8 death of the child.

Police said Garrison is charged with Injury to a Child Intentionally Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

The charge stems from an incident in which officers were sent to the 4000- block of South Bowie Street on the 3-year-old child who was unconscious and not breathing. He was taken to a local hospital and eventually transferred to a hospital in Ft. Worth. He died on June 10 and APD's Special Crimes Unit took over the investigation.

An autopsy was performed on the child and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

APD said the child was under the care of a home heath care professional outside of the home.
