Family of slain Man offers reward

A $5,000 reward has been posted by the family of an Amarillo homicide victim in an effort to catch the victim's slayer.

The family of Ronald Bob Morton is offfering the reward in return for information leading to an arrest and indictment in Morton's stabbing death, said police Lt. Ed Smith of the Potter-Randall special Crimes Unit

Morton’s body was found in his apartment at 2400 S. Polk Street, No. 203, on Nov. 6 after firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze at the residence.

An autopsy revealed Morton received multiple injuries, including stab wounds, police records show

Witnesses told police they heard a car door slam at 3 a.m., shortly before Morton arrived at his apartment that Friday morning, said Smith, coordinator of the Special Crimes Unit that investigates homicides in Potter, Randall, and Armstrong counties.

A fire was set in the apartment to cover evidence in the homicide, fire and police officials have ruled. A weapon that police believe was used in the stabbing was found in the apartment, Smith said.

Morton was described by a neighbor as a soft-spoken man who often walked a dog. Morton, a 1976 graduate of Tascosa High School, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Police are looking for anyone who has heard information, or who saw a car or person around the apartment complex that might be connected to the homicide or saw someone with Morton the night of Nov. 5 or the morning of Nov. 6, Smith said.

The $5,000 reward is offered in addition to the $1,000 reward offered through the Amarillo CrimeStoppers Program.
