AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — UPDATE: The Amarillo Police Department has identified the suspect as Kevin Dewayne Watson, 45.

Officers booked him into the Potter County Detention Center for Aggravated Robbery.

ORIGINAL: The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a shoplifting turned robbery at a Family Dollar late Sunday morning.

APD said officers responded to a reported robbery around 11:45 a.m. at the Family Dollar Store on 2500 SW 10th Ave.

The victim told officers that she saw a man conceal items in his jacket and try to leave without paying for them. When she caught him and grasped his jacket to keep him from exiting, she told officers she could feel an object under the man's coat.

The victim asked the suspect what it was and he told her it was a gun and threatened to use it if she did not let him out. APD said she followed the man out and then he shoved her.

She did not see a gun.

Police officials said at around 2 p.m., officers were checking a home in the 1200-block of W. 10th for the suspect. A man matching the suspect's description rode up on a bicycle and was seen carrying small electronic items like those that were stolen from the Family Dollar.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Amarillo Police Department to speak with Robbery Squad Detectives.

APD said at the time of this release, he has not been booked into jail on the charge and no injuries have been reported.

Officials tell ABC 7 News small electronics such as wrist worn fitness trackers were taken.
