Info for the second fire last night for “B” shift. Good work!!!
The Amarillo Fire Department was dispatched to a fire just after midnight last night in the 2600 block of South Van Buren St. Upon arrival, the Engine 5 crew found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the residence. Firefighters stretched a hose line down the alley and advanced toward the fire, where they encountered heavy fire under a carport. Fire crews gained access to the interior of the home from the front and rear to complete a search.
There were no injuries. The occupants were outside. Firefighters located a cat, a dog and puppies and brought them out to safety. The Fire Marshal's Office has determined this fire to be accidental, with a great probability a broken electrical line caused the fire.
“B” shift fought two fires last night. The first one (video below) was a 2 Alarm downtown in an abandoned building.
Good work “B” shift!!!
The Amarillo Fire Department responded to a structure fire at SE 2nd & S Pierce Street last night around 9:30 pm. The first unit to arrive found a large, two story, vacant commercial building with heavy grey & white smoke showing. Fire crews making initial entry were unable to locate the fire due to the heavy amount of smoke and were ordered out of the building. After a quick recon, firefighters forced a door open near the seat of the fire and got it put out.
There were no injuries. The Fire Marshal's Office is still investigating. This is the second time the old Panhandle Laundry & Dry Cleaning building has burned, which created multiple hazards for our firefighters inside the structure.
