Troopers seize $927K in meth

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than 10 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $927,000 during a traffic stop Thursday on Interstate 40 near Amarillo.
At 6:51 p.m., a trooper stopped a 2015 Nissan Altima traveling east on I-40 in Potter County for an unspecified traffic violation, Senior Trooper Chris Ray said in news release issued Friday.
The occupants of the Altima were identified as Juan Carlos Duarte-Cordova, 45, and Ruth Griego, 41, both of Phoenix. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 10 bundles of methamphetamine hidden in a box of cat litter.
Duarte-Cordova and Griego were arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance more than 400 grams, a first-degree felony, and booked into Potter County jail.
The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Phoenix to Oklahoma City.
