On September 20, 2021, a Borger Police Department (BPD) officer, while on patrol in Borger, Texas, observed Bohannon's vehicle parked in a handicap parking place without displaying a handicap placard in violation of the Texas Transportation Code. The officer approached Bohannon, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, as Bohannon exited the vehicle. The officer asked Bohannon for a handicap placard, so Bohannon opened the driver's side door of the vehicle and reached across the front seat to retrieve the placard. As she did this, the officer observed a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine in plain view inside the vehicle. The officer then asked Bohannon to step away from the vehicle. Bohannon became upset and uncooperative, so the officer detained her.
During a probable cause search of Bohannon's purse, The officer located several items of drug paraphernalia and a bag of suspected methamphetamine. The officer also located a pink hat in Bohannon's purse that contained two bags of suspected methamphetamine.
The officer read Bohannon her Miranda warnings and she agreed to be interviewed. Bohannon admitted that she had just picked up the suspected methamphetamine from her source of supply and was to be paid $1000 to transport the suspected methamphetamine for her source of supply.
