A contract worker for the Texas Department of Transportation discovered what are thought to be human remains west of Amarillo on Wednesday morning.
The worker, who is employed by a company that removes trash from the rights-of-way for TxDOT, discovered the remains at 11:43 a.m. near 10700 W. Amarillo Blvd., about one mile east of Helium Road. There is no indication of the cause of death or identity of the deceased, police said.
Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit investigators said it would be some time before they could process the remains.
Authorities also said they have no estimate on how long the remains have been at that location.
