AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo Fire Department is battling a large fire at a tire shop.

A department spokesperson said they expect to be there all day.

The fire at Advanced Tire Shop started just before 1 a.m.

Fire crews reported propane bottles were exploding inside the building.

One person was checked for burn injuries on scene but refused to go to the hospital.

A firefighter told ABC 7 the victim was trying to stomp the fire out.

The building was still burning seven hours later. As the sun came up, the ABC 7 crew on scene could see a few cars and trucks were also damaged.

The intersection of SE 27th Ave and Ross Osage Drive is closed.

"Please avoid the area and avoid this intersection for travel today," said the fire department. "We have lines across the roads and the entire intersection is shut down."

The building has tires stacked from the floor to the ceiling. Firefighters are taking the tires out of the building and putting them in foam so they don't catch fire.

The fire department was able to retrieve the safe and money box for the owners.
