AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A 22-year-old woman spent New Year's Day in jail after being arrested for intoxication assault following an early morning wreck.
According to Amarillo police, officers were sent to the area of 31st Avenue and South Washington Street just after 5 a.m. on Jan. 1, on a wreck. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a white Cadillac and a black Toyota were involved in the crash.
Police said initial investigation indicated both vehicles were northbound in the 3000- block of South Washington Street before the wreck happened. The front of the Cadillac struck the back of the Toyota, causing the Toyota to leave the roadway and strike an unoccupied pickup that was parked in the driveway at 3005 S. Washington St.
After the collision, the Cadillac came to a rest facing southbound in the northbound lanes of S. Washington St.
A 24-year-old man had been driving the Toyota and had to be extracted from the vehicle by firefighters, police said. He was taken to the hospital and admitted with "what could be [a] life-threatening injury"
The driver of the Cadillac was identified as Haiden Noelle Sloan. She was found near the intersection of 33rd Avenue and South Washington Street, where officers detained her. APD said officers determined she showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol.
Sloan was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, which APD said is a 3rd degree felony, punishable by two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
