A Dumas man was sentenced to life in prison Friday after he was convicted of murder.
Authorities said Donald Jameson, 40, killed Ronald Whitfield, 57, on Aug. 1, 2009, after the two left a Dumas bar in Whitfield's vehicle. Whitfield's body was found around 2:30 a.m. in his vehicle at the intersection of Sixth and North Maddox in Dumas streets.
Autopsy results showed that Whitfield's throat had been cut three or four times.
The two did not know each other, police said.
A Moore County jury heard punishment evidence Friday morning after finding Jameson guilty of murder Thursday.
Whitfield's murder was the first homicide in the city of Dumas since 2001.
