On Jan. 21, police found the bodies of three youths lying in the living room of a home at 510 E. 17th Ave., each with a single gunshot wound to the head. The youths were later identified as Steven Brady Watson, 15; Kai Brooke Geyer, 15; and Mark Edward Caylor Jr., 17.

• The 47th District Attorney’s office issued an arrest warrant on Jan. 23 for John Lezell Balentine, 30, in connection with the murders. Balentine fled Amarillo and remained on the run for six months until he was arrested in Houston on July 23 following a routine traffic stop. Balentine was returned to Amarillo in July and indicted on capital murder charges Aug. 27.
