AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo police arrested a man after he allegedly fled from them in a stolen vehicle.

According to police, officers were sent to the 2800- block of Brook Avenue just after 10 p.m. on Thursday on a stolen vehicle. Police said a white Chevy pickup had been taken from the home.

Just before 3 a.m. on Friday, an APD officer saw the stolen vehicle, which did not have a license plate displayed, going southbound on Dumas Drive. The officer caught up to the truck and initiated a traffic stop but the driver sped up, refusing to stop.

APD said the driver of the truck was driving erratically down the road and the officer lost sight of the vehicle. Eventually, the truck was found unoccupied in an alley in the 900- block of Garfield Street, so officers searched the area.

Officers found 40-year-old Christopher Preciado hiding in a shed in the back yard of a home in the 900- block of North Hayes Street, according to police. Officers found evidence that linked Preciado to the stolen vehicle. Preciado was also found to have a parole warrant and three local municipal warrants out for his arrest.

APD said Preciado was arrested and booked into the Potter County Jail on charges of Evading Arrest/Detention in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a Parole Warrant, the three municipal warrants and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
