| A man wanted for murder in Texas was being held Friday after being captured in Bonnieville, Kentucky State Police said. |
Troopers surrounded a house in the small town Thursday afternoon and arrested Carl Dean Sewell, 39, on a warrant from Amarillo after Sewell surrendered, state police said.
Sewell was in the Hart County jail on a fugitive from justice warrant.
Amarillo police Lt. Gary Trupe said Sewell and two other men were wanted for the Nov. 12, 2003, stabbing death of Amarillo resident Frank Simons.
Trupe said the three brutally killed Simons in a robbery in which money and weapons were taken.
"They did some damage to Mr. Simons," Trupe said.
The case sat dormant until August, just after Sewell left town, Trupe said. Then, a 17-year-old told police he was involved with the killing by giving officers "information only the suspect would know."
"Once he left, that kind of opened up people to talk to us," Trupe said. "Some people might have been scared of him."
The teen said Sewell and another Texas man committed the murder, Trupe said.
Trupe said after more investigation, the teen and the other man have been arrested and a warrant was issued for Sewell.
Tips led officers to Kentucky, where state troopers found Sewell at the home of Bennie Webb, Kentucky State Police said.
Webb, 35, was jailed on a charge of obstructing governmental operations.
Texas police officers were flying to Kentucky during the weekend to interview Sewell, Trupe said. Sewell will be arraigned Monday in Kentucky, and Texas officials will seek his extradition.
