Man convicted of shooting ex-girlfriend's trailer, setting it on fire, running from police

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — An Amarillo man was convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend's trailer, setting it on fire, and then running from police.

A Potter County jury found David Lewis Holland, 41, guilty of arson with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and evading arrest with a vehicle.

According to 47th District Attorney Randall Sims, Holland went to his ex-girlfriends on April 18, 2021 and poured gas on the skirting of her trailer home and the front door.

He also poured gas on a pickup truck.

Holland was about to light both on fire when his ex-girlfriend spotted him on a surveillance camera, opened the door and startled him.

He dropped his gun, picked it back up and fired nine shots into the trailer, barely missing the ex-girlfriend.

Holland then took off.

When he came back seven days later, Holland poured gas on the skirting, ramp and front door.

This time he set the trailer on fire.

Two neighbors who were returning home stopped and put it out.

When police located Holland and tried to stop him for a traffic violation, he led them on an 11 minute chase that ended when police skied his tires.

During the chase, Holland threw a gun out his car window. The gun was recovered by a passing motorist.

Holland was sentenced to 99 years for arson with a deadly weapon, 80 years on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, 20 years for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and five years for evading arrest with a vehicle.
