In the early morning hours of November 6, 1992, police dispatch received a call of a possible fire in the apartment building at 2400 S. Polk St. The caller said that they could see smoke coming from one of the units. When the fire department arrived, they found the source of the smoke to be apartment 203 . After entry was made, an unconscious male was found on the floor of the apartment, and moved outside. Once outside, it was determined that the subject was the victim of a homicide. The victim in this case, Ronald Morton, had been murdered and then his apartment set ablaze in an attempt to cover the suspect's tracks. There were numerous leads on this case, but no one was ever charged with the crime.
