Police officers following up on a tip were led on a chase from rooftops to backyards and over fences, before finally catching a man wanted on multiple warrants on Friday.
At 10:30 a.m., Proactive Criminal Enforcement Unit officers were searching the 3600 block of Tripp Avenue for Gregory Luke Galyon, 18, after a tip led them to believe he was in the area. Galyon was wanted on multiple warrants from harassment, to public intoxication.
Officers saw a white 2006 Ford F-250 pickup parked near Galyon’s house. This pickup had been reported stolen from the Summit Shopping Center area on June 5.
When Galyon opened the door and recognized the officers, he quickly shut it and locked it, police said. Galyon then ran out the back door of the house, climbed the roof and jumped off to the next yard.
A pursuit began as Galyon went from yard to yard, jumping fences to escape officers.
“This is just an example of why we do some of the tests we have for getting on at the police department,” said Ofc. Jeb Hilton of the Amarillo police department.
Officers caught Galyon in a backyard on the 7200 block of Versailles Drive, over 6 blocks away. After Galyon was arrested, his residence was searched and less than a gram of cocaine as well as between two and four ounces of marijuana was seized.
Galyon was booked into Potter County jail on his warrants for a probation violation for harassment in a correctional or detention center, giving false identification, and two capias pro fine warrants for public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally he was arrested for possession of less than one gram of cocaine, possession of between two and four ounces of marijuana and evading arrest.
Police returned the stolen truck to its owner and continue to investigate that case.
