A 20-year-old Amarillo woman fell to her death in a grain elevator in east Amarillo early this morning.
Kelsey Tortoreo was walking across the top of the easternmost building of the Garvey Grain Elevator, 2400 N.E. Third Ave., about 2:45 a.m., when she fell through a 24-by-30-inch hole, police said.
Tortoreo fell approximately 80 feet, a police news release said.
Police said an unidentified man called 911 and told police he was walking in the area of the elevator, when he heard a woman scream and heard what appeared to be the sound of someone falling and striking the ground. Officers searched the area but could not find anyone. Then the caller, whom police found at 908 E. Amarillo Blvd. and brought back to the area, admitted that he and Tortoreo had trespassed in the building and climbed to the top, police said.
