AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A man accused of assaulting his girlfriend's step-father back in August has been arrested, according to Amarillo police.

The initial incident happened on August 30, police said, when officers were sent tot he 4000- block of Southwest 3rd Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on a possible shooting.

When officers arrived, they talked to the victim, a 35-year-old man, who had a severe laceration on one hand. The victim told officers the suspect had a domestic relationship with his step-daughter.

APD said the victim told officers he had just stepped from his vehicle in front of the house when the suspect approached him and struck him with a four-way lug wrench. The victim was able to get the wrench away from the suspect, after which the suspect pulled out a handgun, pointed it at another person who was with the victim and fired at least one shot into the air.

Police said the suspect ran away on foot. Officers did find one expended cartridge case in the street.

The victim was treated at the scene but police were not able to find the suspect. However, on Dec. 28, the 47th District Attorney accepted two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon stemming from the incident and two warrants were issued for the suspect, 22-year-old Carlos Oleander Evans Jr.

Around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, APD SWAT officers found Evans in a black Cadillac in front of a home in the 1500- block of Poplar St. He was taken into custody without incident.

APD said a man who was talking to the suspect at the time he was found was also arrested after officers found a small amount of marijuana in his possession. He was identified as 21-year-old Moraye Burgess. He was booked into the Potter County Jail for Possession of Marijuana.

Police said Evans was also booked into the Potter County Jail for the two aggravated assault charges. Officers also seized two loaded handguns and a small amount of marijuana from Evans' car.
