Amarillo police are investigating a home invasion robbery that turned into a fatal shooting Wednesday at 823 S. Kentucky St.
Special Crimes Unit Investigator Sgt. Jason Riddlespurger said the shooting was reported about 7 a.m. Two people forced their way into the house and encountered a young man who was awakened by the noise. The robbers shot the man in the chest before they fled, police said.
The man was found lying on the living room floor, police said.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he died Wednesday morning, Riddlesburger said. Police have not released the victim's name pending next-of-kin notification. Police did not release a description of the robbers, but Riddlespurger said investigators are gathering information.
A man in the area said the victim was his 27-year-old nephew. Officers blocked off South Kentucky Street at Line Avenue.
Special Crimes is asking anyone with information to call 378-9468 or Crime Stoppers at 374-4400.
