Homicide suspect booked into Potter County jail

Tyrone Dawayne “K.R.” Black, 22, was booked into Potter County jail Monday night on a charge of first-degree murder in the November death of Eric Ontario Smith Jr., 19, in the parking lot of an Amarillo nightclub.
Black had since evaded arrest and was picked up by law enforcement officers July 13 in Bloomington, Minn. Bloomington police officers reported that they were searching a hotel for a suspect wanted in a separate case and found Black was wanted in Texas.
Capt. John Coffee of Potter County Sheriff’s office said that Texas Prisoner Transport brought Black from Minnesota.
On Nov. 25, officers were dispatched to a shots fired call at Paradise Club, 714 N. Fillmore St.
Witnesses told police Black approached Smith in the parking lot, fired a gun at him and fled the scene before officers arrived.
Smith was taken by private car to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
