Felon with previous convictions found guilty on drug charges
Amarillo, TX - The 47th District Attorney's office says a man found guilty of possession of a controlled substance will go to prison for 25 years.
District Attorney Randall Sims says 33 year-old Amir Mustafa Kariem has previous felony convictions, including possession of a controlled substance in 2010 and assault on a public servant in 2005, for each of which he was sentenced to four years in prison.
The trial began on Monday and wrapped up by Tuesday afternoon.
Kariem could have faced anywhere between 25 years to 99 years, but was handed the minimum sentence by the judge.
