Police today released preliminary autopsy results for a man who died after a shootout in downtown Amarillo.
Potter-Randall Special Crimes Lt. Gary Trupe said Claudio Trujillo, 24, of Amarillo, died Wednesday of a gunshot wound.
The autopsy, performed on Thursday, revealed that five bullets struck Trujillo early Jan. 30, according to the police.
Trupe would not reveal where Trujillo was struck and said only that he was struck in the upper body and legs. Trupe said several slugs were retrieved from Trujillo's body during the autopsy.
The bullets will be checked against a weapon recovered at the scene and the handguns fired by four officers during the incident.
The officers fired into a sport utility vehicle moving toward the officers after the driver failed to heed their demands to stop. Numerous shell casings from several different caliber weapons and bullets have been collected at the scene, from the SUV and at autopsy, police said.
Several of the shell casings recovered at the scene were from firearms not carried by Amarillo police, police said.
