About 9:30 p.m. Jan. 19, Easterday was eastbound in the 12400 block of East Interstate 40 in a 2002 Ford Mustang when he crossed the center median into the west lanes, police had said.

Easterday struck a 2004 Nissan Frontier and then a 2000 Ford Ranger, police said.

A 2006 Chevy Cobalt, driven by William Dillehay, 48, then struck the Ford pickup, police said.

The Nissan's driver, Kendrick Ray Powell, 21, of Canyon, died on scene, authorities said.

Gustavo Ohara, 48, of Canyon, the driver of the Ford pickup, and Dillehay were uninjured.

Easterday suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, authorities said.

Speed and alcohol contributed to the accident, traffic investigators said at the time.
