Police charged a 23-year-old Amarillo man with carrying a prohibited weapon after he allegedly attempted to catch a plane at Rick Husband International Airport while in possession of brass knuckles, authorities said.
Transportation Security Administration agents detained John Keith Lusk when he tried to pass through the security checkpoint at the airport about 7:10 p.m., said Airport Police Commander Greg Daniel.
It is a Class A misdemeanor to carry brass knuckles anywhere in Texas, let alone at an airport, Daniel said. Authorities would not disclose Lusk's destination.
Police booked Lusk into the Potter County Detention Center. Officials are also holding Lusk on a drunken-driving warrant out of Harris County, records show.
"Occasionally you get somebody who shows up with something that is prohibited, like those brass knuckles," Daniel said. He said Transportation Security Administration agents at the airport about a month ago stopped a man with a permit for a concealed weapon who had forgotten he was carrying the weapon. The unidentified man may now face federal charges for carrying a weapon into a place where the weapon is prohibited.
