Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit investigators are reviewing a suspicious death after officers found a man lying in the front yard of a north Amarillo home.

Richard Steven Fisher, 45, died Tuesday night at a local hospital, unit coordinator Lt. Erick Bohannon said.

About 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, dispatchers received reports of a possible assault at a home in the 300 block of North Lamar Street, where one person was armed with a baseball bat, Bohannon said. When officers got to the home, they found two people performing CPR on Fisher, who was lying on his back in the front yard, he said.

Officers called Special Crimes because of the circumstances of the call and what they saw at the home, he said. Investigators are trying to determine whether the initial reports were true, and Bohannon would not say if Fisher was struck by a bat.

He would not disclose further details of the investigation.

A Lubbock pathologist performed a preliminary autopsy Wednesday afternoon, but needed to run more tests before determining a cause of death, Bohannon said.
