Amarillo firemen work to put out a fire Wednesday, at an abandoned building in the 1900 block of Southwest Seventh Avenue.

No one was injured when an abandoned apartment building caught on fire Wednesday evening, firefighters said.

Flames erupted about 7:15 p.m. in the structure in the 2000 block of Southwest Seventh Avenue, investigators said. Passersby woke residents of the City of Refuge Ministry, one building west of the structure, said ministry operator Venus Skipper. Firefighters doused the blaze in about 45 minutes.

Investigators said 21 firefighters in seven firetrucks responded to the blaze. A fire marshal was called to the scene, firefighters said. There was no electricity to the building, firefighters said. No other information was available Wednesday.
