Amarillo Police Department officers took a suspect into custody after a Sunday morning robbery at a Family Dollar store.

At 11:44 a.m. officers responded to a reported robbery at Family Dollar, 2500 S.W. 10th Ave. An employee there said she intervened with a suspected shoplifter, noting she saw the male conceal items in his jacket, according to the APD.

The employee grasped at the male’s jacket in attempt to keep him from exiting the store. Though not brandished, the suspect told her he had a gun and left the store. The employee followed and was assaulted by the male.

Using the male’s description along with additional information that was not disclosed, officers went to the 1200 block of 10th Avenue, where they found a suspect matching the provided description.

Police did not report any further aggression in the act of taking Kevin Dewayne Watson, 45, into custody. Police say they found Watson in possession of small electronic items like those stolen from the store. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated robbery.

The store employee was not hurt.
