When he arrived home from work early April 18, Gloria Arias’ son found her body in her home at Henryetta Apartments in the 500 block of West Second Street, police said. An autopsy revealed the 36-year-old woman had been stabbed more than 60 times and her skull crushed.

Arias had been “stabbed in a brutal manner, resulting in her death,” police said in a news release. Police added that she suffered wounds throughout her body.

Leads pointed toward Rodas, a former companion of Arias who lived in a neighboring apartment, investigators said.

A news release said a blood trail led to his apartment.

Rodas met Arias on the Internet, and the two became involved in a relationship, investigators said. Rodas then moved to Borger, where he lived with Arias briefly before moving into the neighboring apartment, police said.

Arias broke off the relationship about a week before the attack, said 84th District Attorney Mark Snider. Rodas had been drinking and went over to her apartment, where he became upset and attacked Arias, Snider said.

Authorities captured Rodas in the canyons northwest of Borger April 21 by using a Department of Public Safety helicopter and searchers from multiple law enforcement agencies.
