AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A "large-scale cocaine dealer" was arrested in Amarillo after running a stop sign.
Brandon Dwayne Burks is charged in federal court with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
According to the criminal complaint, Amarillo police learned about a "large-scale crack cocaine dealer" in October.
Burks was suspected of selling cocaine out of a house at 517 N Taylor Street.
Police said he possibly used 309 Teakwood Street to stash larger amounts of drugs.
On Nov. 17, police stopped Burks for running a stop sign after he left the house on Teakwood.
They found four plastic baggies in his underwear containing 58.4 grams of powder cocaine and 33.1 grams of crack cocaine.
During a search of 309 Teakwood, police found a bucket with two vacuum sealed bags.
One of the bags contained 497 grams of cocaine. The other held $13,000 in cash.
According to the criminal complaint, Burks admitted the cocaine in his underwear and the cocaine/money in the house was his. He said all of money “came from drug proceeds.”
Burks said he fell on hard times after he got out of prison in 2019 and started selling again.
Burks admitted distributing 3.5 pounds of cocaine in Amarillo this year alone.
