AMARILLO, Texas — An Amarillo man who was already in custody for two robberies has been charged with yet another robbery.

According to Amarillo police, 22-year-old Denzale Tyree Smith was already in custody on prior robbery charges, which included an Aggravated Robbery charge in connection with a robbery of the Family Dollar at 433 S. Western St. on March 18, 2015. In that incident, the suspect was armed with a handgun and had an employee open a register and he took off with the money. Smith was later arrested at the apartments at 1550 S. Bell St.

The most recent charge against Smith stems from a robbery of the same Family Dollar on April 28, 2015, where a suspect armed with a handgun robbed two female employees and ran out carrying the money in a white trash bag.

Smith has also been charged with a robbery of the Motel 6 at 4301 I-40 East on June 1, 2015, where the suspect jumped over the motel counter and pointed a handgun at the desk clerk's head. The suspect then took money from a cash register.

APD said investigators recovered a toy gun which they believe may have been used in a robbery at a home in Northwest Amarillo.

Smith is currently in custody at the Potter County Jail.
