Preliminary autopsy results show that a 37-year-old man whose body was found in a ditch Thursday died from what police said could be an assault, authorities said.

About 2 a.m. Thursday, Potter County sheriff’s deputies found Clay Petersen’s body in a ditch at 1800 North Smelter Road, Sgt. Eric Smith said.

The Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit will continue to investigate Petersen’s death as a homicide, police said.
