AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amarillo police have arrested and charged the person suspected in the hit-and-run on Southwest 10th Avenue that left two women hospitalized.

Police say the suspect has been identified as Stephanie Luna. She faces charges of two counts of accident involving serious bodily injury.

According to a criminal complaint, Luna came into the Amarillo Police Department and said she wanted to turn herself in. She told officers that she “thought” she was the one who hit two people near Southwest 10th.

In an interview with officers, she said she was driving on 10th at the time of the accident. She said she had front end damage to her car and “originally thought she hit something stationary like a pole.”

She was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on these charges.

The incident happened in February in the area of Southwest 10th and South Hayden Street.

Two women were crossing Southwest 10th Avenue when they were hit by a white SUV. The SUV then drove away from the scene.

One of the women, a 36-year-old, received life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Court documents say she had life-threatening injuries and had to be intubated

The other woman, a 24-year-old, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Court documents say she had a broken leg and road rash.

Surveillance video from Craig Gualtiere shows the hit-and-run from across the street.
