A man is arrested in connection with the shooting death of Maxwell Wilson, 19, last month in the San Jacinto neighborhood.

Amarillo Police stopped Morris Sonny Gladden, Jr., 20, for a traffic violation and found he had drug paraphernalia.

According to reports, the Special Crimes Unit investigators had information that Gladden as there when Wilson was killed. They say they developed evidence that Gladden was present at the incident and was firing a handgun.

Gladden is charged with Deadly Conduct, a third degree felony. He was not charged with shooting the victim or with homicide. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

On June 14, 2016, officers of the Amarillo Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Louisiana on multiple shots fired and one person shot. Officers arrived and found a large crowd at the park and a man dead in the roadway near the curb. It appeared the victim had a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was identified as Maxwell Wilson, age 19. As the investigation progressed, it was learned there was another shooting victim at a local hospital. That victim was treated for his injuries and released. An autopsy will be performed in Lubbock on the morning of the 15th. Special Crimes continues to investigate this case and asks anyone with information about Maxwell Wilson’s death to call 378-9468.
