Authorities have identified the man accused of murdering a 51-year-old Wellington man early Saturday morning.

Collingsworth County deputies booked Ivory Darton, 58, of Wellington, into the county jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault. Darton remained in the jail Monday. Investigators originally said he was 59.

Darton is accused of killing Hinacio Contreras, who suffered severe injuries during a domestic disturbance about 4 a.m. Saturday, said Collingsworth County Sheriff Joe Stewart.

Contreras and Helena Darton, 48, sustained severe bodily injuries at a north Wellington home, Stewart said. An ambulance transported both to Collingsworth General Hospital, but Contreras died en route, he said.

Stewart said Helena Darton had severe head injuries that appeared not to be life-threatening. She remained in the hospital Monday.

An autopsy was conducted on the body in Fort Worth on Sunday. Stewart said he was still awaiting preliminary findings.
