John Allen Smith, 27, was shot and killed by police officers June 16, when he fired at officers who were chasing him down an alley.

Smith had led officers on three high-speed chases in the days prior to the shooting. When he turned on them and fired in the alley between 17th and 18th avenues off Grand Street, he missed. Officers Jason Riddlespurger, Hal Simpson and Thomas Hightower returned fire and struck Smith several times.

A Potter County grand jury cleared the officers of wrongdoing.
