HARDEMAN COUNTY, Texas (KVII) — The Texas Rangers are on the scene after a chase between Texas DPS troopers and an 18-wheeler ended in a deadly shootout.

Just before 7 a.m. Friday, Hardeman County authorities got an emergency call from a man who claimed his co-driver in a semi truck shot him.

Deputies said they found the truck, which evaded them for a 10 mile chase along U.S. 87 east of Quanah.

Eventually, the truck stopped and the driver got out reportedly holding a gun.

Authorities said he exchanged gunfire with the pursuing officials and was shot dead.

The original caller was taken to the hospital by helicopter with injuries considered life-threatening.

DPS said, in addition to their agency and Hardeman County, Willbarger County Sheriff's Office, Texas Game Wardens and the Chilicothe Police Department were all involved.

U.S. 287 is now closed in both Quanah and Vernon.

No word yet on when that route will reopen.
