The Amarillo man who died in his driveway early this morning of an apparent stab wound had hosted friends watching boxing on television Saturday evening while his wife was at a family celebration, acquaintances said.
Dagoberto Blanco, 47, of 1317 Jason Ave., died about 1:40 a.m. today, of an apparent stab wound, authorities said. Police said when they arrived on the scene they found family members performing CPR on Blanco.
Blanco was apparently stabbed in the upper body and collapsed, police said. He died at the scene. No arrests have been made today. A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy, which is scheduled for Monday in Lubbock, police said.
Jesus M. Perez, 61, a friend of Blanco's, said Blanco had friends in the house to watch boxing on television Saturday evening while his wife attended a quinceanera-a Latin American celebration of a girl's 15th birthday.
Friends and neighbors described Perez as a hard-working, conscientious father. They said he had three grown daughters and two granddaughters. Perez said he and Blanco, whom friends called Doggo, came from the same town in Mexico-Gran Morelos, Chihuahua.
"He was a nice man," Perez said.
Gino Lafuente, 63, of Amarillo, another good friend, said one of Blanco's daughters called him with the news of the death early this morning.
