UPDATE: Thursday, 10:15 a. m. The driver of the vehicle that ran from the traffic stop and crashed in the 1900 block of South Johnson Street was identified as 23-year-old Alexis Zapata. He was arrested for a probation violation warrant for burglary out of Deaf Smith County and booked into the Potter County Detention Center. The female in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — UPDATE: Thursday, 10:15 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle that ran from the traffic stop and crashed in the 1900 block of South Johnson Street was identified as 23-year-old Alexis Zapata. He was arrested for a probation violation warrant for burglary out of Deaf Smith County and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.
The female in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries before being released.
Three Amarillo Police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is normal protocol for any APD officer-involved shooting.
The shooting is being investigated by the Texas Rangers and APD's Special Crimes Unit.

The Amarillo Police Department's Special Crimes Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 1000 block of South Johnson Street.
According to police, officers made a stop on a vehicle occupied by Isaac Ray Ruiz, a 22-year-old male who was wanted for a parole violation on the original charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The vehicle stopped at southeast 10th Avenue and South Johnson Street and Ruiz got out and started running south in the 1000 block of South Johnson Street.
As Ruiz ran, he fired multiple rounds at officers. Officers returned fire striking the suspect.
Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
A male and female still in the vehicle evaded officers and crashed on Johnson St. and Interstate 40 and both were taken into custody.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
APD's Special Crimes Unit continues to investigate the incident.
