AMARILLO, Texas(KVII) — One man has been arrested for charges that are related to the death of Charlesetta Telford and her unborn baby back in 2016.
According to the Amarillo Police Department, Investigators of the Special Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Anthony Dwion Richards for the shooting death of Charlesetta Telford and her unborn baby.
Richards was charged with capital murder and booked into the Potter Country Correction Center.
"It was determined that the actual bullet that was shot into Ms. Telford did kill the baby and that's why they were able to get a capital murder charge on this and eventually get a warrant and enough evidence to get the warrant," said Cpl. Jeb Hilton, Amarillo Police Department.
On June 20, 2016, officers were sent to the 5900 Plum Creek on a shooting, with reports that a victim was down in the apartment complex.
When officers arrived, the victim, 38-year-old Telford, was suffering from several gunshot wounds. Telford was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Telford's family tells ABC 7 News on Monday that they are all in shock. They say that they pray that God continues to bring light to the case and that justice will get served.
"It's probably a burden so they don't have to sit there and think 'who did this to our family member?' They know, but it doesn't make it any easier," said Hilton. "I don't think it makes the death easier at all, but I think that knowing that somebody is behind bars and going to at least stand up for what they did to their family has got to make them feel a little better about it."
According to Hilton, the special crimes unit worked tirelessly to find leads.
"With not a very good description and not a lot of evidence to go off on, sometimes it takes a little bit longer," said Hilton. "There's never really a set time frame on solving a case. We all get caught up in watching TV and watching movies and cases are solved in 60 minutes so it kind of puts a false impression in people's eyes on how long an investigation should last."
The affidavit says that Richards used a 9 mm handgun in an argument with his girlfriend in April of 2016, prior to the Telford killing. The cartridge casing collected from that scene was compared to the ones from the scene at Telford's murder. A Texas DPS lab report confirmed that the two were fired from the same weapon.
The special crimes unit is still investigating. They are asking anyone with more information in this case call them at 378-9468.
